Fantasizing a World Without Borders — An Utopian Dream!

Every time I read a story on border dispute it disturbs me a lot. Does it bother you too?

There are 100s of the ongoing border and land disputes around the world. These territorial disputes have made many humans suffer directly and indirectly. Armed conflicts, economic sanctions, water disputes and many more have made life impossible for many humans in many parts of the world. Why are borders so important? Are they a real-time need? Politicians say borders protect us. But, do that really do so? Are borders game of few at the cost of many people’s peace?

I always had dreamt of living in a world where life is simply based on humanity and peace. Just imagine a world without borders, arms, fights, passports and visas. We might be living in a world where everything is guided under the rules and relegations of trust, love and brotherhood.

Did you ever have a similar dream?

Never-ending questions

Once in my childhood when I was looking at a political outline map I asked my mom who has drawn these lines? Why are we divided into states? How do they look in reality? Will you take me to see the border? My mom explained to me that these borders are virtual and don’t exist in reality. She also said it is easy to take care of everyone when we are in small groups. So that’s why states exist. As my mom said I believed that borders are for good.

But when I had a real understanding of borders, my views on them changed. And every time I read news on border disputes and wars, my constant thought was why do we need a border? Politically it’s a very complex issue. When I first learnt about utopianism in my political science class I found that my dream of the world becoming borderless is a utopian dream. Utopianism basically means that having a state in which everything is perfect and peaceful is regarded as unrealistic. So in short my dream of a borderless world peaceful world is unrealistic.

Nationalism is toxic

You might question me why do I want a borderless world? Majorly world is divided into borders based on religion, race, ethnicity and language. With defined border comes nationality and nationalism. In my ideology nationalism is highly toxic. Nationalism gives us an identity and a feeling of oneness but demands us to believe that we different from the rest. Nationalism also puts the state first than humanity. This gives the thought that my land, my resources, and I hold the rights over them. The land, the resources and the living beings — everything belongs to nature. Who are we to hold rights over them?

One world one country

If the world is not divided into countries, the entire world will belong to every human. There won’t be the fight for land. There won’t be any hierarchy based on race, ethnicity or religion. People can move freely to any part of the world. All the resources belong to everyone. The world will move on the terms of brotherhood and peace. The possession of materialistic life and wealth amalgamation will not exist. If wealth amalgamation does not exist, poverty will also do not exist. Everyone has the same quality of life. Just a world of love, humanity and peace.

I guess, even you might feel that this practically impossible and unrealistic. When writing this I had a constant smile and happiness in mind thinking how good life will be if my dream and words become reality. I hope you will also wish for the same. I dream I will dream hoping that it comes true someday!
